Glorification of Allah SWT
Advice
The essence of knowledge is to know what obedience and worship are. You should know that obedience and worship is to confirm to the law in commands and prohibitions in word and deed. This means that what you say, do and forsake should be according to the shariah; therefore fasting on the day of Eid is a sin, or fasting the 3 appointed days for the Hajj Pilgrims in the valley of Mina is a sin, although it appears to be a form of worship.
In the previous lessons we learnt about knowledge and the different types. However there are also wisdoms which combine all the knowledge for us and simplify the knowledge for us. It doesn’t matter who possesses that knowledge, whether Muslim or non Muslim, or whether it's to do with the affairs of this world or religion, know that all knowledge comes from Allah, and He created all forms. In the Quran, Surah Al Baqarah, we learn that Allah taught Adam all the names, and then He presented this to all the angels.
Is obedience and worship the same thing?
The person who is engaged in worship and performing the acts of worship because its command from Allah (such as praying and fasting) then he is fulfilling these acts of worship because he is commanded to do so by Allah. However with obedience, this is when a person engages in worship with the love to perform that act and willing to do so. Each will be rewarded accordingly, with the latter being able to taste the sweetness of the connection with Allah.
If we wish to enter into this rank or a servant who performs worship with the feeling of love in their heart towards this act, and at the same time be an obedient servant to Allah, what do we do?
1 - The first thing to do in order to have both love of the action your performing and be in a state of obedience is to make a lot of duaa to Allah to allow you to perfect your acts of worship in the best possible form which is the most beloved to Allah.
2 - Secondly, that you be prepared for that particular act of worship before it comes to you or enters its time. A person who is truly prepared and yearning for a particular act or worship, will ask Allah before this time of this worship to help him in this, to help him concentrate. For example, if its prayer time, than have wudu before the prayer starts, make duaa asking to be able to pray in the best way. At first it will be difficult, but with time you will be able to taste its sweetness. Even though the acts of worship have physical aspects, and outwardly are movements, know that inwardly, in the hidden dimension there is a spiritual state, which is attached to this form of worship- whether its prayer, performing hajj, giving charity, reading Quran etc all of these different kinds of worship possess their own souls and secrets which are hidden by Allah. Because all of these acts of worship possess their own spiritual conditions, the idea is to try and link the light of your soul, with the soul of these particular acts of worship. So what happens if Allah allows us to link our souls with the souls of the acts of worship? Then you will have the souls blown into you by Allah, and you would have strengthened the connections between you and this action, and then ultimately strengthen the connection between you and Allah, which is our goal.
If you link your soul with the soul of salaah, then the salaah will make duaa for you saying you have fulfilled your rights within salaah, and at the same time if you do not fulfil your rights within salaah, the salaah will pray against you. This is evidence that the salaah has a soul and that it is alive. On the Day of Judgment our deeds manifest themselves in a way which we don’t see in this life. All of our acts of worship will be manifest in different states, whether it's for us or against us.
If you perfect the way you perform salaah and strengthen it, and try to connect your soul with the soul of salaah then know that you are strengthening your connection between you and Allah. The strongest connection between Allah and His servant is salaah. If you strengthen the way you perform salaah, it does not just strengthen your relationship with Allah, but also with all of the creations. You are a lot more sensitive to the souls and creation around you, and when you perfect your salaah you will reach a point in your spiritual state that if you fall hungry, all you need to do is perform salaah and you hunger pains go, if you're in a state of fear or feel anxious, you just enter into salaah and your fear and anxiety disappears.
Perfection our salaah1 - The first thing to do is perfect our wudu. If we have to have presence of heart in our salaah, then the first step is to perfect our wudu. When we perform is, perform it as thought you are performing it in a state of yearning to meet Allah, and preparing yourself to be in the company of Allah, have presence of heart, mind, and soul in your wudu, and this will help have presence of heart, mind and soul in salaah. We are taught that wudu is the key to salaah.
2 - Secondly, pray behind a person who is connected with Allah. You'll find that such a person when they say Allahu akbar, they say it in a way that the rest of creation can hear it and they say Allahu akbar after hearing it. Although mankind may be unaware of this, know that the other forms of creations are aware of this, and know that this is not a strange thing. When you are praying in your room know that all other forms of creation around you participate in your glorification of Allah. It says in the Quran- "All of the creations glorify Allah, but you are not aware of their glorification that all of the forms of creation are making".
When the companions of the Prophet went to eat dates, they could hear the dates saying subhanAllah. One time the Prophet picked up 7 pebbles and they were saying subhanAllah while he was holding them, then he passed them onto Abu Bakr, and they continued to say subhanAllah, then they were passed onto Othman. They all heard and experienced the glorification of Allah in their own hands. If you are true in your takbir (saying Allahu akbar in salaah) you will find everything around you will join in with your takbir. So when you are praying behind someone who has a strong connection with Allah, your soul has an opportunity to be connected with Allah. If you don’t find such a person to pray behind, then imagine you are praying behind the Prophet and then start you salaah saying 'Allahu akbar'.
Therefore if you have the opportunity where you're alone in a place, take the opportunity to be engaged in some kind of dhikr (remembrance of Allah) with an audible voice. Why in an audible voice? Because all the forms of creation that are around you, all record your voice in a form of glorification and on the Day of Judgment Allah will make those things speak and you will hear your own voice. The same is for the opposite, the filth that you engage in and say, is also recorded and you will see it played back to you on the Day of Judgment. Allah says in the Quran- "We record everything which you do"- both audible and visual. All will see what you have done if Allah wills to humiliate you, but know that Allah does not like to humiliate you and wishes to cover your sins. Know that Allah usually humiliates the ones that do not care, who openly commits sins and are proud of themselves. If a servant makes a true repentance to Allah, it is very easy for Allah to make all of the creation which witnessed your bad deeds, living and non living, easily erased from their memory and on the Day of Judgement they will say you committed no sins whatsoever.
Any place that you go into, whether a new house or hotel, try to pray 2 rakats and try to do this in every room so that that place does not become a place of sin. Know that salaah has such a power that it can prevents sin form occurring, especially if you can try and get someone who is connected to Allah to pray in your house, this will also help in the prevention of sin and evil coming near your home. If you come across a command from Allah, and Allah says do, then you perform such an action without any hesitation whatsoever, and when Allah asks you to avoid particular actions or prohibitions which are haraam, then you avoid such things without any question whatsoever. So if a person who performs these actions where Allah commands you, then Allah will help you do these actions without any kinds of laziness, and if you avoid all actions which are forbidden without any hesitation, then Allah will make it so we do not question it within our hearts, as there are people who when Allah forbids something and the people avoid it, internally they still question why? This person will always struggle. So therefore you should perform the actions which Allah commands us to do, lovingly and willingly, and also avoid the haraam while having no objection within our hearts.
Habib Hussain advices us and wants us to pay close attention. He mentioned earlier to ask Allah to give you success on a particular type of worship that you would like to perform. There is a particular type of duaa/prayer that if you recite it, Allah will allow you to perform your acts of worships lovingly, and to avoid sin without any hesitation or question in your heart.
The duaa is in Surah Al Hujaraat.
"Oh Allah, make imaan (faith) beloved to me in my heart and decorate it in my heart. And make kufr (disbelief) and fusooq (disobedience) hated to me."
"اللَّهَم حَبِّبْ إِلَيَّ الْإِيمَانَ وَزَيِّنْهُ فِي قَلْبِي وَكَرِّهْ إِلَيَّ الْكُفْرَ وَالْفُسُوقَ وَالْعِصْيَانَ"
In the first part when you say the word 'Imaan' imagine the particular act of worship that you want to love. It could be Imaan, Salaat, Hajj, Dhikr, Sadaqah- any form of worship. In the second part of the duaa think of the sin that you want to hate and Allah will help you in hating that sin.
This ayah has a particular secret. If you have a child, who is engaged to a particular bad habit that you wish to remove from that child, bring them close to you and place your hand on their heart and recite this ayah, and recite as often and as much as you can. If you can't do this or your child doesn’t allow, then hold them by the forelock on their head and recite the ayah again, if this is difficult then recite it over them while they are sleeping, if this is also difficult, then recite it over a glass of water and make them drink it. There are many ways that can be done and this is one of the cures for the heart, and by the secret of this ayah then the diseases of the heart will be cured.
